Carport Conversions in Phoenix:
framing in a carport to build an enclosed garage

Which fits you?

1) CURIOUS: considering a possible project and need general information (such as minimum costs)
2) URGENT: looking for a contractor who can complete a project by a certain time
3) SELECTIVE: looking for a reliable, experienced contractor that offers a good value

Whatever matters most to you, we will help! How is that possible? It is because we work with a few different carport conversion contractors that serve Phoenix & beyond.

So, which Phoenix contractor is best for you to enclose
your carport? A clear leader has emerged! [SCROLL DOWN in the dark box for more.]

Over the last few years, I've personally spoken to nearly a hundred homeowners (and more than half a dozen contractors in Phoenix) in relation to carport enclosure projects. I've learned that there are two groups of carport conversion providers in Phoenix: remodeling companies that typically charge at least $10k and "budget" providers that often charge less than half as much.

Most people so far have told me that they strongly prefer to use a low-cost provider. Among those providers, however, there is only one that I can highly recommend for enclosing a wide variety of carports. (The audio review below in the grey section of this page features him.)

Of course, with a great reputation comes a lot of word-of-mouth business, so his schedule is often filled for the next 2-3 weeks or more. Fortunately, that is not an issue for most people (especially since it can take 10 days just to get a building permit issued in certain local cities).

Still, many homeowners have specifically said that they were definitely going to get bids from multiple providers (or had a very tight schedule, like they already agreed to sell the home and promised to have a garage finished prior to the closing date). So, within this site, I have testimonial interviews featuring more than one carport enclosure specialist.

After you share a little about your interests and priorities, I will set you up to get a proposal from our top provider or, if you prefer, from a few competing providers. In fact, in rare cases, like when you need a major change to your roofline or extensive renovations to the space behind your carport (such as a utility room), we can connect you with one or more estimators that are a better match for a more complicated remodel like that.

We know who covers what geographical areas (like some work a lot in Sun City and others work a lot in Mesa & Tempe). We even stay updated on whose scheduled is currently the most open or the most backed up.

The most unique thing about getting a quote or proposal through us is this: we conduct independent interviews of past clients of the different service providers. We know who has flawless reviews. We also know who has decent reviews (but not flawless, like repeatedly has taken a few extra weeks to complete a conversion relative to the originally-stated expected completion date).

Also, we don't stop just at providing you audios of the live, unrehearsed testimonials. We can even connect you with specific homeowners who have volunteered for us to release their phone number and answer your questions about their experience (whether flawless or not).

Plus, the homeowner interviewed below (in the 9 minute audio) gave far more details than what he wrote on a popular review website. Here is his entire review from that site:

"Professional, knowledgeable, and a nice guy. He had ideas that enhanced the final project."

Compare that very brief review to just this one nugget from the unrehearsed interview:

"I've never seen anything like it... from any contractor! You know, the time that he took to craft and put together the email....

He would explain (in short, succinct paragraphs) what his plan was... down to the details. And that's valuable to a homeowner... because you don't know what you're going to get, when you're going to get it, how you're going to get it.. until it actually happens (if it happens).

So, anyway, by doing that, Michael allowed me to feel more at ease, you know, as a homeowner (not having to worry about... when was the next step in the project)."

Now, for people with more extra time than extra money, if you'd like to invest more time in to really knowing which contractor is the best investment for you, we have several audio interviews (and transcripts) on this site. If requested, we can even email you a set of direct links. Some past clients have even volunteered to be contacted to answer your questions.

carport conversion Phoenix: enclosing a carport to convert it to a garage

carport conversions in Phoenix, Scottsdale, Sun CIty, Mesa & Tucson AZ

Our latest audio testimonial below is from a homeowner just to the west of Phoenix. He contacted us in February of 2018 about enclosing his carport plus some other renovations. Once he hired our contractor, the entire process of enclosing the carport (planning, permitting, construction, & inspections) took about 5 weeks.

This interview was totally unrehearsed and lasted just over nine minutes. I focus on several shorter segments below (in chronological order). To hear an audio excerpt, click the white triangle within the black rectangle. (FYI, in the transcript below, JR refers to me, the interviewer, while MN refers to the homeowner).

0:01 JR: I wanted to just review the process of your interest in getting your carport enclosed, then your selection process, and then how it actually went. Do you want to just give me a little story or do you want me to ask more questions?

MN: Yeah. Why don't you ask questions? I'm not good at story-telling.

00:19 JR: So let's back up to when you got interested in enclosing your carport: ...what was the interest based on?

MN: Sure... Well, my wife and I down-sized from a 2500 square foot home down to a 1400 square foot home ([MOVING BACK TO] the house that we originally lived in when we moved to Arizona) [WHICH HAD BEEN RENTED OUT TO TENANTS]. We had a carport and always wanted a garage, but I wasn't sure if we were going to stay there [WHEN WE LIVED THERE PREVIOUSLY].

So... we've come full circle and (fast forward) we're downsizing and we move back in. We're definitely needing to get a garage.

We like this house. We like the neighborhood, but... we'd been so spoiled with our existing home (our previous home)! We had the garage and the whole nine yards... and so we decided to go ahead and, you know, enclose the carport.

1:20 It was kind of tough to find, you know, where to start (where to research to do that). I went out with a couple companies and got quotes, and then stumbled across your website (and liked the lay-out, liked the testimonials) and decided to give you a ring.

You referred me a couple people. I picked Michael (and I'm glad I did)... he did a great job!

1:55 JR: Okay and as far as the the factors that had you choose Mike over the other people you talked to you previously (or just anyone else in general), what what were some of the factors?

MN: Good question! A couple things:

price (Michael was moderately priced: wasn't high, wasn't really low, but he was fair).

That's a really good thing. I looked for value / cost... then the other thing is communication.

I look for someone that... preferably has a little bit of education- Mike has a lot more than a little. Someone that can communicate. Someone that's not afraid to call you back... or text you when you call. (A lot of contractors don't do that.)

So those are the two big things: price and the way he communicates. He shows you (and says) "do you have any questions?" He's very detailed...

The third and last thing is the value proposition, in other words, the finished product. And so we were happy with all three of those.

04:04 JR: One of the things that I have noticed (cause Mike will send copies of emails to me): I see... what he presents to people and it is quite detailed in some cases. He... gives different options....

MN: To be honest with you that, JR, that was a huge factor for me. I've never seen anything like it... from any contractor!

You know, the time that he took to craft and put together the email. It wasn't a quick "yeah, I'll be there."

But he would explain (in short, succinct paragraphs) what his plan was... down to the details. And that's valuable to a homeowner... because you don't know what you're going to get, when you're going to get it, how you're going to get it.. until it actually happens (if it happens).

So, anyway, by doing that, Michael allowed me to feel more at ease, you know, as a homeowner (not having to worry about... when was the next step in the project). And, he always communicated with us to let us know that if he didn't do a certain thing on the project, he would basically point me in the right direction or provide advice as to what he would do if he was the homeowner.

Sometimes I acted on that. Sometimes I didn't, but... he was a good resource as well.

06:30 JR: ...During the process and then... once it was done and you looked at everything, do you have any other comment on the service the provided, the value, and so forth...?

MN: Well no, other than being very personable... which I also thought was a bonus. Extremely personable- would stop to talk to you no matter how busy he was and I thought that was really cool.

Just a down-to-earth guy, good craftmanship - the craftsmanship was excellent, detailed- moderately priced, does what he says he's going to do... and those are all key things that I'm happy to share with whoever needs his services.

JR: Very good.... I like to ask just a very direct question: if you have you already recommended him to anyone by any chance?

MN: I have not recommended him, but I've got maybe someone in the neighborhood... there's a possibility that he could get recommended.

07:58 JR: I'm sensing that you're very willing to recommend him (based on what you said).

MN: Yes absolutely, I would not be hesitant

JR: Great! Okay, well unless you have anything else that you think to toss in that I haven't asked about, that covers my plan. So, anything else?

MN: I appreciate you recommending him....

Here is a SECOND audio review of that same contractor (who has performed over 700 carport-to-garage conversions in greater Phoenix in the last 15 years).

Below, you can read and listen to a 2:25 recording of an unrehearsed testimonial from a homeowner in Phoenix who contacted us in late January of 2018. By mid-February, she had spoken with two of our contractors that both offer fast, affordable carport conversions across greater Phoenix. She describes why she chose Mike and gives her comments about her thoughts on the whole process (as of a few weeks after the completion of the carport enclosure project).

To play the audio, there is a white triangle in the center of the image on the left. Click it. You can read the full transcript by scrolling further down.

Also, to the right above, that is what her carport looked like as of early 2018. Below that is a close-up of the new garage door and framing (note that the project was still not quite done).

This is J.R. Hunn. You had contacted me about converting your carport to a garage (and then Mike told me he finished it I think the very beginning of April). I wanted to check in with you and see if I could get some feedback from ya... and maybe a testimonial.

Thank you for getting back with me.... Yeah, Mike is amazing. I like that man! He's very conscientious... and he did great.

Great! I did want to ask you about the... the first part of the process. You had contacted me in late January and then you spoke with Mike as well as at least one other estimator and I... wanted you to comment on why you originally chose to pick Mike, if you would.

Well, let me think.... First was pricing. And the other was that... Mike, even over the phone, he just has a very calm, knowledgeable demeanor.

And the other guy, he was "all business." He was like "Don't worry. I'll bring in my crew. We'll get it all done. We'll be done in a day. We like to do it this way...."

At that point, I was just like, "Mike is who I really want to go with." I like that man. He's a sweet guy.

When he had me choose the door, and the people that I got the actual door from... he was spot on with who to choose to get it. They were very efficient. They worked very well with him. So I'm... very pleased.

Okay, very Good! Do you think that you would be very likely to recommend him if somebody else was interested in a service provider in Phoenix?

Oh yeah! In fact, I told him! I said "Hey Mike, if I know anybody who needs a carport changed in to a garage, definitely I will let you know." Yeah, he's definitely who I would recommend.

Yeah, okay. Thank you very much, Terrie. I hope you enjoy your garage.

Okay, thank you, bye.

We offer 3 distinct types of services:

#1: Converting a carport to a GARAGE

The majority of people visiting our site are primarily interested just in a single renovation: enclosing a carport to convert it to a garage. If you have no other renovations in mind and you simply want a fully enclosed garage built as a replacement for your existing carport, then click CONVERTING TO A GARAGE.

#2: Converting a carport to a ROOM

Occasionally, people with an attached carport wish to add more interior space to their home. So, they basically want our contractors to legally build a home addition out of a carport. However, if you just want a "mixed use" space that is legally a garage, click option A above. If you want the carport to legally become interior space (even if you want other renovations like the construction of a new carport elsewhere on your property), then click here now: CONVERTING TO A ROOM ADDITION. (That page is written for people who have a garage and want to convert it in to something else, which is almost the same as when starting with a carport.)

#3: RENOVATIONS + a new garage

If you do want to convert your carport to a garage, although that is just one item within a list of renovations that ideally you would like to all have handled by one contractor, then click this link and provide us some details of the different renovations that you are considering: MULTIPLE RENOVATIONS. (Note that our renovation estimators can EITHER give you independent estimates for each specific renovation that you would like to have done OR a single bid for the entire set of home improvements- like what you might need in order to take to a loan officer when applying for a 203k loan).
